Flâner178 Daejeon Bakery Cafe: Corn Cream Latte and a Walk

A bakery cafe at the foot of Gyejoksan Mountain, easy to reach by car on a Daejeon trip. Here's how ordering works and what the trail is like, from my visit.

On the afternoon of Tuesday, October 13, 2026, I visited Flâner178, a large bakery cafe in Jang-dong, Daedeok-gu, Daejeon.

I ordered a corn cream latte and an orange Americano and took a short, easy walk while I was there.

The name Flâner178 comes from flâner, a French word meaning "to stroll at a leisurely pace," and from the cafe's address, 178-1 Jang-dong.

The bakery is on the first floor, and the second floor has lots of seating and a terrace. There's also a walking trail on the hill behind the cafe.

I put this together for anyone traveling by car who wants to enjoy some bread and coffee and stretch their legs a little.

A Two-Story Building With a Large Parking Lot

The cafe has its own parking lot right out front, plus more parking behind the building, so I didn't really have to worry about parking when I drove in. The building has two floors, with wood-toned exterior walls and big floor-to-ceiling windows on the second floor, so you can tell how large it is even from outside. There's a flower bed at the base of the exterior wall, and the 'Flâner178' sign hangs above it.

Drinks at the Kiosk, Bread at the Counter

How Ordering Works

Ordering happens in two places. Coffee, lattes, ades, smoothies, and tea are ordered at the drinks-only kiosk near the entrance. Bread can only be paid for at the counter. Bottled drinks and kids' drinks are also ordered at the counter.

On weekends the second floor can fill up, so it's a good idea to grab a seat before you order.

KakaoTalk Pickup Alerts

When you pay for your drinks, you can enter your phone number, and you'll get a KakaoTalk notification (KakaoTalk is Korea's go-to messaging app) when your order is ready. Points are saved to the same number.

Foreign visitors who don't have KakaoTalk can order directly at the counter.

Grab a tray from this table before you start picking out bread.

There's also a sign listing specific food allergens, so if you have allergies, it's worth checking before you choose your bread.

A Wide Variety of Baked Goods on the First Floor

A long bakery display runs through the middle of the first floor.

On top of the display stood a sign saying they use Lescure butter, which carries France's AOP certification.

The prices I saw were 5,000 won for the vanilla flan, 7,800 won for the ham and cheese pain suisse, and 7,500 won each for the chausson aux pommes and the chausson au citron.

I didn't buy one this time, but the chocolate ribbon pastry stood out the most on the display.

A Lescure butter certificate sat at one end of the display, and there were savory, meal-type breads like pizza bread and focaccia too.

From the Stair Seating to the Second Floor

Along both sides of the stairs from the first floor to the second, there's seating with tables and floor cushions. Each step has a round light on it, which made for a nice atmosphere. The second floor is much bigger than the first, with all kinds of seating, from long wooden tables to tables for two. It has floor-to-ceiling windows on every side, so you can see the mountains and hills right outside.

Amenities: An Oven for Warming Bread and Wi-Fi

The second floor has an oven where you can warm up your bread, and public Wi-Fi is available. The network name and password are posted on a sign on the wall.

The Second-Floor Terrace Is a No-Kids Zone

The second-floor terrace is a no-kids zone. It's meant to prevent accidents involving children, and only guests 13 and older can use it. If you're coming with kids, you can sit indoors on the first or second floor.

Return Your Cups and Trays to the First-Floor Return Station

When you're done, take your tray and cups back to the return station on the first floor yourself. There are separate slots for forks and knives, cups, and plates, and the trays go on the shelf below.

Most large cafes in Korea work this way, with customers returning their own cups and trays, so it's good to know if it's your first visit.

Next to the return station, there was also a sign showing where to park strollers.

What I Ordered

I ordered an orange Americano (iced) and a corn cream latte (iced).

Corn Cream Latte

This one is marked as a signature drink on the menu, and it only comes iced. The smooth cream latte and the nutty corn kernels go really well together, and the flavor lingered even after I'd finished. If you're only getting one drink at Flâner178, this is the one I'd recommend.

Orange Americano

The orange Americano also only comes iced. There's a layer of orange at the bottom of the glass with coffee poured over it. On the first sip, the bright, sweet orange aroma comes through first, followed by the rich, nutty taste of the espresso.

The Tree Trail Up the Hill

After finishing the drinks, I walked up the trail on the hill behind the cafe. The trail map marks a garden photo zone, a signature "healing tree" photo zone, a forest photo zone, and a countryside-village-view photo zone.

Follow the path up and you'll find one big tree standing at the top of the hill. That's Flâner178's signature photo spot.

What to Order at Flâner178

Drinks

If it's your first visit, I recommend the signature corn cream latte.

If you want a brighter, fruitier coffee, there's also the orange Americano.

For the regular Americano, you can choose between a nutty bean and a more acidic bean.

An extra shot or switching to decaf costs 500 won more each.

Bakery

People who've been here recommended the vanilla flan.

It's the cafe's signature item, a custard like an egg tart's combined with pastry, and it's known for its fragrant filling.

The chausson aux pommes (a French pastry with apple filling) and

the anbutter salt bread (filled with red bean paste and butter) are popular too.

The corn pie is reportedly a weekend-only item, so if you're going on a weekend, check the display for it.

Tips for Your Visit

I recommend finishing your drink and then walking the hillside trail.

It's easiest to grab a seat on the second floor first and then order at the kiosk.

Bread is paid for separately at the counter, not the kiosk, so you're basically ordering twice.

If you have kids with you, use the indoor seating instead of the terrace. If you plan to walk the hillside trail, wear comfortable shoes.

Final Thoughts

Flâner178 turned out to be a relaxing cafe at the foot of Gyejoksan Mountain, where you can enjoy the signature corn cream latte and a wide range of baked goods, then walk up to the tree on the hill. It's away from downtown Daejeon, but the parking lot is big, so it's much easier to visit if you have a car.

From the top of the hill, you can take in the whole cafe at a glance.
